An adult is a human or other animal that has reached complete growth.The biological definition of the term is animals that have reached sexual maturity, and therefore capable of reproduction. In the human context an adult's term has implications that are based on the legal and social world. In contrast to "minor" or "non-adult" legally-aged adult is an individual who has achieved an age at which they are majority. They are thought to be responsible, independent and capable. The word "major" is a term used to describe these individuals. The age of 18 is the legal adult age, however, this definition may differ by country, legal rights or psychological development.

The age of adulthood marks the point in human life when a person has reached full maturity in terms of both physical and mental growth. Most people think that adulthood starts at 20 years or greater. The middle age begins at approximately 40 and is followed by the old age of about 60. The beginning of adulthood occurs between the age of 18 to 30. The middle age stage begins from between the mid-30s and 60s. Late adulthood starts at mid-60s. At the point we are in the age of early adulthood (20 to the early 40s), our physical maturation is complete, although our height and weight could increase a bit. As we enter the first years of adulthood, we are physically and mentally at the peak. The strength of our muscles, the response timing, the ability to sense and cardiac function are all at their peak.
